Training Plans

A large part of my work with you will involve creating and managing your weekly running. When I start working with you, we will evaluate your running history and goals in the process of generating your training. As you progress, I will make adjustments as needed to keep you fit and competitive. What you get with a personalized training plan from Untamed Athletics is as follows.

  • Assigned running based on your experience
  • Runner specific plans that play to individual strengths and improve weaknesses
  • A variety of workouts with proven effectiveness
  • An obtainable approach to building mileage
  • The accountability that you need for consistent training
  • Communication to change and adapt your running on the fly
  • Planned long term training blocks
  • Weekly emails laying out your training for the next 7 days
  • Clear goals for each run

Not only do we all want to be capable runners, but we all need to be well-rounded athletes. I really want to emphasize functional fitness within my training. That’s why I put together stretches, plyometric drills, and core exercises for each runner to perform a few times a week. Not only will you get stronger, but you will feel better every day. What you get from being an Untamed Athletics athlete is as follows:

  • Specific Warm-up routines to prepare for each run
  • Specific “Cool down” exercises for recovery after running
  • Active Stretching exercises to become more flexible
  • Plyometric drills focused on running specific mobility and overall strength
  • Core exercises to build full body strength
  • A way to effortlessly fold this additional work into everyday training; No workout equipment necessary!

Large gains can be made through these types of exercises that are needed for injury prevention, running faster, and running stronger. I can help you if you’ve stagnated as a runner, or if you seem to not quite be where you need to be. The addition of these exercises to your training will make a difference.

Strength Training

Strength training, and more specifically weightlifting can make a huge impact on athletic performance. Leg strength and running specific movements are important to capitalize on, and using more than just bodyweight for these motions can yield surprising results. If you want to see drastic power and strength gains that you can feel in each run, then you need to lift weights. I’ve put together a mix of conventional lifts like squats and deadlifts and paired them with other weighted plyometrics to make the best mix of exercises for performance. In addition, we won’t disregard the upper body.

Although our focus will be on the legs, I will mix in the appropriate upper body lifts to add to your functional fitness. If you have experience in the gym, I’m willing to work with you and add in running specific weight training to your current routine. Building on the base that you already have will always be beneficial. Everyone stands to benefit from strength training, and if you’re ready to pursue another aspect of fitness then we can definitely add it into your plan.

Aerobic and muscular fitness is only part of the battle when it comes to running. In order to maximize your potential as a runner, being mentally fit is a must. At Untamed Athletics, I make it a priority to help my athletes build confidence and feel mentally ready for key workouts and competitions. I hope to provide enough guidance and information so that my athletes can build mental fortitude in the background on their daily runs. A strong, “winner” mentality can be garnered over time until it becomes second nature. In addition, I plan to send periodic emails with different running specific mental training exercises to complete. These could be anything from how to stay calm on race day, to coming up with a positive mantra to help get you through a workout. If you want to learn more about the brain’s relationship with endurance sports and how you can leverage mental training to perform better, you are in the right place.
